Breast enhancement surgeries are not an uncommon thing these days. With changing times, the desire for looking good and picture perfect has also increased. Breast enhancement surgery not only improves the physical appearance but also builds up one’s confidence. But this surgery is also accompanied by a lot of risk and after care. This surgery is mostly done to deal breasts which have lost their shape and volume. SURGICAL PROCEDURE: STEP 1: Anaesthesia The procedure starts with Anaesthesia given to the patient by the doctor. The Anaesthesia given can be a general one or conscious sedation i.e. also called Intravenous conscious sedation. In General anaesthesia, the patient is completely not in senses whereas in conscious sedation the patient does not feel bothered with anything once the anaesthesia is given , the area becomes numb. Step 2: Surgical Incision Incisions are made in such an area where it gets camouflaged to minimize any chances of visibility of the scar. The incision is generally done either under the armpit which is called transaxillary, around the nipple is called periareolar and at the underside of the breast is known as inframammary. Step 3: Silicone Vs Saline There are two types of materials that are used in a breast enhancement surgery one is Saline and the other one is Silicone. Both types of surgeries have their pros and cons , it is for you to decide in consultation with the doctor to opt for which one. • Saline Sterile salt water is used in this kind of surgery. In this process the breast are filled with the sterile salt water according to the need which affects the shape and size of the breasts. As everything has its pros and cons in case of rupture the implant will break down and gets soaked up by the body whereas the drawback of this surgery is that it can lead to bacterial and fungal infections. • Silicon In this type of surgery a silicone elastic gel based material is filled in a shell. Silicone implants can be cancer causing also as they have toxins which affect the nervous system tissues. In case of a ruptured implant it is always advisable to keep a check by doing a regular mammography or MRI. Step 4: Implant Placement and Closing the Surgical Incision The placement of the implant depends on the one’s body types, extent of enlargement needed and the recommendation of the surgeon. The breast implant shells are either inserted under or over the pectoral (Breast) muscle. The closing of incision is done either with stitches or by using an adhesive. The incision scar fades away with the time. Who and Who Not? Breast enhancement surgery can be done at an age over 18 for a saline implant and 22 for a silicone implant. Anyone with a history of cancer, any infections or pregnant and breastfeeding woman are not advised to go for the surgery. Things to Avoid A few days before the surgery • Tell the doctor about any medications or supplements that you are being taken by you. • Quit Smoking and Avoid Alcohol for few days before and after the surgery. • Avoid having food and water post midnight before the day of the surgery. • Take a shower using and antibacterial wash to avoid any chances of infection. • Abstain from any rigorous exercise regime. • For monitoring the blood circulation rub of your nail paints. Planning things ahead the surgery is always advisable as it reduces stress and helps you experience a smoother recovery process.
